There are debuts that announce a band, and then there are debuts that kick the door off its hinges. When Pungent Stench dropped "For God Your Soul... For Me Your Flesh" in 1990, Death Metal was already boiling over — Entombed had just landed their first full length, and Deicide and Cannibal Corpse were about to make their own noise. But from Austria came something filthier, stranger and far more twisted, a record that welded Death Metal to early Grindcore and came out sounding like Obituary colliding head-on with Terrorizer.

What makes this album so addictive is its total refusal of polish. No melody, no clean lines, no showing off — just a hostile, churning wall of riffs that burrow into your skull and refuse to leave. "A Small Lunch" and "Blood, Pus and Gastric Juice" are proof that primitive Death Metal hits hardest when it stops trying to be clever. Sludge-drenched slow passages collapse into savage bursts while the bass rumbles underneath like a sick animal clawing for daylight. And yes, that grim grin is always there — but Pungent Stench were never a joke band. The humor only made the filth more vivid.

Remastered and back on wax, this is the sound of a genre's golden era at its most unhinged. Loud, ugly and absolutely essential.
