Background information about 'Tales Of Creation'
When Candlemass unleashed "Tales of Creation" upon the world in 1989, they crafted what many consider their most accessible yet undeniably powerful statement. This third studio offering marked a pivotal moment where the Swedish doom masters refined their crushing formula without sacrificing an ounce of their monumental heaviness. The album opens with the prophetic thunder of "The Prophecy", immediately establishing an atmosphere thick with mystical dread and biblical imagery that would become the band's signature.
What sets "Tales of Creation" apart is its perfect balance between crushing doom passages and surprisingly melodic interludes. Tracks like "Under the Oak" showcase Messiah Marcolin's operatic vocals soaring over Leif Edling's earth-shaking bass lines, while "Into the Unfathomed Tower" delivers some of the most spine-tingling doom metal ever committed to tape. The production captures every nuance of their sound, from the subtle acoustic passages to the bone-crushing distorted riffs that have influenced countless bands in their wake.
