The Kansas City outfit wastes zero time setting the stakes. Opening track As Above, So Below erupts with a riff that feels like a collapsing star — dense, gravitational, and utterly inescapable. What follows is a masterclass in controlled chaos. Maelstrom lives up to its name, swirling between pummeling sludge passages and fleet-fingered thrash runs that'll snap your neck if you're not careful. Vocalist and guitarist Martin Bush doesn't just sing; he bellows from some deep, primordial place, equal parts battle cry and existential howl. The rhythm section of Justin Rippeto (bass) and Nick D'Andrea (drums) operates like a war machine — tight, relentless, and devastatingly heavy.

But here's the thing: beneath all the riff-worship lies some seriously sharp songwriting. Blood for Blood rides a groove so infectious you'll be humming it for days, while Dead Lies Dreaming stretches into more atmospheric territory without ever losing its iron grip. The production — handled by the band themselves — is raw enough to feel alive but polished enough to let every snarling detail cut through. By the time the sprawling Dross closes things out with its labyrinthine riff spirals, you've been through something. This isn't background music. This is the kind of record that demands your full attention and then headbutts you for not giving it sooner.
