Background information about 'Plastic Green Head'
Trouble delivers a crushing masterpiece with "Plastic Green Head", an album that stands as a towering monument in the doom metal pantheon. This 1995 release showcases the Chicago legends at their most experimental and adventurous, blending their signature crushing riffs with psychedelic undertones and atmospheric textures that create an absolutely mesmerizing sonic journey. The opening title track sets the tone with its hypnotic groove and Rick Wartell's guitar wizardry, while Eric Wagner's distinctive vocals soar over the dense, heavy arrangements like a prophet of doom delivering divine revelations.
The album's genius lies in its perfect balance between crushing heaviness and melodic sophistication. Tracks like "The Eye" and "Flowers" demonstrate the band's ability to craft songs that are both brutally heavy and surprisingly accessible, while their cover of The Monkees' "Porpoise Song" transforms a psychedelic pop gem into a doom-laden epic. The production captures every nuance of the band's performance, from the thunderous low-end to the subtle guitar harmonies that weave throughout each composition.
