Background information about 'Vile'

There are records that simply rearrange the furniture in a genre, and then there are records that bulldoze the whole damn house and pour a new foundation. "Vile" is firmly in that second camp. Released in 1996, it arrived at a genuinely terrifying crossroads for Cannibal Corpse — Chris Barnes was out, and in stepped a relative unknown named George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher, who had to prove, from the very first syllable, that he could not only fill those shoes but stomp a crater through the floor wearing them.

What followed was the most technically ferocious and surgically precise album the band had ever committed to tape. Tracks like "Devoured by Vermin" don't so much open the record as detonate it, a whirlwind of high-velocity blast beats and razor-sharp riffing that set a new benchmark for American death metal. But it's the control that kills — the way "Disfigured" and "Perverse Suffering" balance sheer brutality with an almost architectural sense of structure. This is death metal as precision engineering, every snare hit and guttural growl locked into a merciless machine that never once lets up.

And now the whole monstrous thing lands on picture disc, the way it was always begging to be displayed. The artwork, all crimson chaos and grotesque grandeur, finally gets the treatment it deserves, spinning on your turntable like some unholy artifact. For anyone who worships at the altar of extreme metal, this is not a reissue — it's a coronation.
