Chile's underground thrash metal scene has been spitting fire for years, and Critical Defiance are among its most ferocious torchbearers. Hailing from Valparaíso, this four-piece has been honing their craft since 2010, and with their fourth full-length "Rivers of Blood", they deliver a compact, 32-minute masterclass in pure, unfiltered aggression. There's no filler here — just eight tracks of razor-sharp riffs, frantic drumming, and that distinct South American intensity that makes old-school thrash feel dangerous again.
What sets "Rivers of Blood" apart from the pack is the band's willingness to weave darker atmospheres and tension into their sonic assault without sacrificing an ounce of speed. Sebastián Palominos' production is clean and punchy but retains a raw, organic edge that lets every snare crack and guitar scream land with maximum impact. Following up on their previous albums — "Misconception" (2019), "No Life Forms" (2022), and "The Search Won't Fall" (2024) — this record sees the band more focused and lethal than ever. The structures are unpredictable, the riffs are venomous, and the whole thing feels like a Molotov cocktail thrown into a mosh pit. This is thrash metal played by people who live and breathe it.
