Background information about 'Transilvanian Hunger'

This legendary 1994 release stands as one of the most influential black metal albums ever created, marking Darkthrone's complete transformation from their death metal roots into the frozen landscapes of Norwegian black metal. Written and recorded in just two weeks with its iconic photocopied cover art, "Transilvanian Hunger" delivers primitive guitar riffs over hypnotic, monotonous drumbeats that create an atmosphere of stark, mesmerizing bleakness. The album's raw production and minimalist approach perfectly captures the essence of second-wave black metal, drawing inspiration from Von, Burzum, and Bathory while establishing its own unique identity.

Recorded at Fenriz's Necrohell studio, this was the first Darkthrone release as a duo following guitarist Zephyrous's departure, with Fenriz and Nocturno Culto crafting eight tracks of pure Norwegian black metal mastery. The album's influence on the genre cannot be overstated - it became the definitive template for 90s Norwegian black metal sound and style, inspiring countless bands over the past three decades. This 30th anniversary edition includes a specially created remaster true to the original 1994 vision, plus Fenriz's personal commentary disc offering rare insights into the creation of this seminal work.

For fans of: Burzum, Mayhem, Emperor, Bathory, Immortal and Von
