There are albums in thrash metal history that simply refuse to slow down, and "Cracked Brain" is one of the most gloriously unhinged of them all. Destruction had already carved their name into the German thrash trinity alongside Kreator and Sodom, but by 1990 the band was in full-blown transition. This is the record where they charged headfirst into a slightly more polished, groove-laden attack without ever sacrificing an ounce of that Teutonic fury.

What hits you first is the sheer momentum. The riffs on "Cracked Brain" are razor-edged, the drumming a relentless barrage, and the vocals snarl with a venom that feels almost theatrical in its intensity. There is a wild, almost punkish energy running through the whole thing, a sense that the band simply refused to sit still. Tracks like the title cut and the bruising opener come at you like a freight train with the brakes cut, and yet there is a surprising amount of melody buried under all that aggression.
