Background information about 'Darkness Falls (The Early Days)'
Swedish death metal has always had that special something — a cold, razor-sharp edge that sets it apart from the rest. And Desultory? Man, these guys were right there in the thick of it from the start. Darkness Falls (The Early Days) finally collects the band's three seminal demo tapes on one slab of wax, and it's about damn time.
This isn't just some cash-grab reissue. Mastered from the original tapes by Patrick W. Engel at Temple Of Disharmony (the man's a wizard when it comes to this stuff), these recordings breathe with a vitality that's been buried for decades. From the raw, chainsaw guitar tone to Klas Morberg's unmistakable growl — it's all here, preserved and amplified. The demos capture Desultory at their most primal, before they refined their sound into the melodic death metal mastery of Into Eternity and Bitterness. Tracks like "Forever Gone" and "Depression" hit with a desperate, hungry energy that only young bands in sweaty rehearsal rooms can conjure. The 20-page booklet featuring a brand new interview and unseen photos makes this the definitive document of a band that helped shape an entire genre.
