More about 'Ayam (Instrumental)'
Two years after the release of "Ayam," Disillusion's fourth album has certainly spun countless times on turntables and been streamed extensively. Each melody, rhythm, and note has been listened to repeatedly and memorized. Yet, numerous musical "secrets" still await discovery. With "Ayam (Instrumental)," Disillusion generously provide their most loyal fans with a wonderful treasure map to uncover some of these hidden gems. Devoid of the magnificent vocals, other aspects of the tracks suddenly shine, bringing previously overlooked elements to the forefront. The original songs remain unchanged; only the vocal tracks have been removed from "Ayam." During the pandemic, with limited opportunities to perform live and facing personal restrictions, Disillusion's focus shifted primarily towards the band and recording their fourth album, "Ayam." The result is evident: "Ayam" sounds deeper, more intricate, and refined compared to its acclaimed predecessors. The richness in detail of the German avant-gardists' music is never merely for show but always serves the song and paints vivid pictures for mental cinematics.
Formed in 1994 in Zwickau around singer and guitarist Andy Schmidt, Disillusion achieved the rare feat of making a name for themselves in progressive melodic death metal with their debut album "Back to Times of Splendor" in 2004. Their subsequent release "Gloria" (2006) marked a quantum leap in multiple directions simultaneously. When "The Liberation" emerged in 2019, critics described it as a logical continuation of "Back to Times of Splendor," reflecting 15 years of additional experience in Andy Schmidt's musical evolution. It combined Disillusion's best qualities: massive metal fused with moments of pure euphoria as well as quiet introspection, creating an auditory roller coaster full of passionate emotions. With "Ayam," Disillusion once again sails among the stars towards new constellations of hard guitar sounds, staying true to their general course while anchoring occasionally to explore sparkling new soundscapes. This album offers an exciting evolution rather than a radical revolution—a golden ticket for an extraordinary musical journey.
