More about 'Like An Ever Flowing Stream'
Honestly, there's a reason why metal nerds still get goosebumps when they hear the opening riff of "Override Of The Overture" –this is the debut album by Swedish death metal band Dismember, released on 28 May 1991 through Nuclear Blast. What makes this record so damn special isn't just the crushing heaviness, but how Dismember managed to blendthe mystic/occult side of the genre's broad lyrical outlook to complement the obligatory gore obsessionwith some seriously catchy songwriting.Dismember know how to make very hooky, rhythmic, and dynamic songs while maintaining a very raw and straightforward approach, and tracks like "Soon To Be Dead" and "Bleed For Me" prove this perfectly.
The production here is absolutely legendary – recorded at the famous Sunlight Studios with thatdistinctive chainsaw guitar tonethat became the blueprint for Swedish death metal. The riffs on this album are impeccable, malevolent, and greased with boiling distortion. No riff on this album that I hear falls short of making me headbang. What's crazy is how Nicke Andersson from Entombed actually played most of the lead guitars on this thing, which explains why it sounds so perfectly brutal yet melodic at the same time.
