Forty years. Four decades. And yet Exodus sound like they've got something to prove all over again. That's the thing about the Bay Area thrash titans — they've never been content to rest on the blood-soaked laurels of Bonded By Blood. With Goliath, their twelfth studio album and first for Napalm Records, they're not just showing up, they're kicking the damn door off its hinges.

And let's talk about the elephant in the room — or rather, the returning giant: Rob Dukes is back behind the mic, and the man delivers what the band themselves call the performance of his life. You hear it immediately on tracks like "Hostis Humani Generis," where his delivery cuts through the chaos with a crystalline fury that reminds you why his era produced some of Exodus' most ferocious material. The album opens with "3111," a sinister, dissonant strike that erupts into full-throttle thrash before you can catch your breath. From there, Goliath unfolds as the most collaborative Exodus record in their history — multiple band members penning tracks, with guest spots from Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain) and violinist Katie Jacoby adding new textures to the trademark Holt/Altus axe assault. "The Changing Me" is a standout, blending menace and melody with Tägtgren's skyscraping screams and cleans weaving through those signature dual-guitar acrobatics. The title track slows the tempo into something more ominous — winding leads, towering drums, Jacoby's strings intertwining with intricate riff work — proving these veterans still have new tricks to unleash.

But don't think for a second they've gone soft. "Promise You This" is pure pit treachery, cyclonic riffs and turbocharged Holt soloing that'll have you icing your neck for a week. "2 Minutes Hate" delivers one of the grimiest, grooviest pit primers on the record. The nearly eight-minute epic "Summon Of The God Unknown" traverses trudging riffs and heavy metal melody with wicked intent. And closer "The Dirtiest Of The Dozen"? An all-stops-pulled manic high — dueling solos, isolated bass excursions, drum dexterity from Tom Hunting, and vocal passages alternating between grit and gang-chant fury. Produced, mixed and mastered by Mark Lewis (Whitechapel, Nile), Goliath beams with the explosive authenticity that's kept Exodus eons ahead of the pack since 1985. No mediocrity. No compromise. Just thrash metal forged in the same fire that started it all.
