Fvneral Fvkk don't so much play doom metal as hold a black mass in slow motion. Formed in Hamburg back in 2015, this congregation of scene veterans has spent nearly a decade perfecting a sound that feels less like music and more like architecture — towering, cathedral-sized riffs that press down on your chest while mournful melodies drift through like incense smoke.

"Indecent Idols" is their second full-length sermon, and it wastes no time establishing its unholy gravity. From the strict choral voices that open the record to the first crushing chord, the band builds a world that swings between sacred grandeur and total moral decay. Cantor Cinaedicus delivers his clear tenor with a conviction that could almost be called angelic — if the subject matter weren't so gleefully heretical. The rest of the band rides that razor's edge between heaven and hell with a dynamic, gut-punching intensity.

What makes "Indecent Idols" so compelling is how it expands on everything that made their 2019 debut "Carnal Confessions" and the "Lecherous Liturgies" EP so striking. The epic tradition of classic doom metal is alive and well here, but it's been dragged into darker, more emotionally punishing territory. Every track feels like a confession dragged out of a guilty conscience — dense one moment, vast and sprawling the next. Thematically, the lyrics remain rooted in documented crimes, abuse, and corruption committed by religious institutions across history, which gives the whole thing an unsettling weight that lingers long after the needle lifts.

This is doom metal as ritual, as indictment, as catharsis. Amen.
