In the early nineties, amidst the burgeoning second wave of black metal, Gehenna formed in Stavanger, Norway. Their debut demo "Black Seared Heart", originally released on tape in limited quantities back in 1993, laid the groundwork for their subsequent influence within the black metal scene. Despite its rawness and nascent musicianship, the demo's studio production elevated it above typical lo-fi recordings of the era. The atmospheric tracks are characterized by deliberate pacing and brooding melodies that hint at Gehenna's potential even at this embryonic stage.

The reissue of "Black Seared Heart" is a treasure trove for enthusiasts featuring remastered tracks by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. This edition boasts an instrumental track recorded during rehearsal sessions and includes an unfinished studio session intended for their first EP "First Spell"—a testament to their ambitions cut short yet preserved here for posterity.
