Background information about 'Unified in Void'
There is a moment on "Unified in Void" where the guitars stop circling and simply hang in the air, and you realise GROZA have never sounded this sure of themselves. The German outfit built their name on a sound that sits right between the frost of black metal and the slow, aching weight of post rock, and this record pushes both halves further than before. The tremolo passages still cut like sleet, but underneath them the band lets melodies breathe, lets a clean line linger a second too long, lets the drums fall away until all that is left is a single ringing chord. It is patient music made by people who clearly love the drama of a long build.
What makes it stick is the songwriting. Nothing here feels like a genre exercise. The riffs arrive with a purpose, the transitions land with a thud you can feel in your chest, and the vocals sit deep enough in the mix to sound like a warning rather than a performance. There is grief in these songs, and defiance too, and the two never cancel each other out. By the time the record closes you get the sense of having been walked through something heavy and left standing on the other side, a little winded but glad you came along.
