Background information about 'Kampen (Re-Release)'

Some records don't just get reissued, they get resurrected, and "Kampen" is exactly that kind of beast. Arckanum's third full-length, and the final chapter of Shamaatae's fabled first era, arrives here in a remastered-for-vinyl edition cut from the original recordings by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. Clocking in at a sprawling 73 minutes, it remains the longest record the project ever committed to tape, and somehow also the sharpest sounding of the early trilogy. Where "Fran marder" and "Kostogher" laid the groundwork, this one builds the whole crooked cathedral on top of it.

What makes this album so magnetic is how restless it is. Shamaatae never settles for one mood, and the writing here swings from the majestically melancholic "Pa gruvstiigher vandrum", complete with eerie conjuring female chanting, straight into the almost punkish, riff-forward snarl of "Trulfylket, raþez ok os". That tension between ancient atmosphere and raw aggression is the whole point, and it's delivered with a conviction that few bands of the era could match. Add the unmistakable visual world he built around the project, the calligraphy, the drawings, the lyrics in ancient Swedish, and you get something closer to an antikosmos than an ordinary black metal album.

This second pressing comes as a double LP in a gatefold sleeve with UV-varnish on the cover, and it's properly loaded: a hefty 20-page 12" booklet featuring part four of an in-depth Shamaatae interview alongside never-before-seen photos, plus an A2 poster tucked into every copy. Limited to 500 copies in total.
