ARCKANUM · Kampen (Re-Release) | CD

Jewel case CD with 32-page booklet.

Background information about 'Kampen (Re-Release)'

Some records don't just get reissued — they get restored to their rightful throne. "Kampen" is the third and final chapter of Arckanum's legendary first era, and listening to it again feels like stepping through a doorway into a world Shamaatae built entirely on his own terms. One man, one vision, one antikosmos. Originally unleashed in 1998, this is the longest album of that early period, and arguably the most accomplished: sharper compositions, the best sound of the three, and a mood that swings between majestic melancholy and raw, almost punkish spite without ever losing its footing.

What makes "Kampen" so special is how much personality bleeds out of every second. Shamaatae didn't just write riffs — he wrote calligraphy, drew the covers, crafted the booklets, and sang in ancient Swedish, turning Arckanum into a total aesthetic universe rather than just a band. Tracks like the haunting "Pa gruvstiigher vandrum", with its conjuring female chanting, sit perfectly beside the blunt, snarling drive of "Trulfylket, raþez ok os", and that contrast is exactly the point. It's 73 minutes of Swedish black metal that refuses to be background noise.

Remastered for vinyl from the original recordings by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, this edition finally does the album justice. The jewel case CD comes with a 32-page booklet packed with the artwork and words that made this era untouchable. If you've been waiting for the definitive version of a genuine classic, the wait is over.
