Background information about 'Kampen (Re-release)'

Some records don't just sit in a genre, they build a whole world around themselves. "Kampen" is exactly that kind of record. Shamaatae, the sole driving force behind Arckanum, had already carved out a singular path with "Fran marder" and "Kostogher", but the third and final chapter of the band's first era is where everything clicks into place. Clocking in at a sprawling 73 minutes, it remains the longest Arckanum album to this day, and not a single one of those minutes feels wasted. This is black metal that breathes, that crawls, that suddenly lunges at you from the fog.

Recorded in the same studio as its predecessor and now remastered for vinyl from the original tapes by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, "Kampen" sounds better than ever, and honestly, it always had the strongest production of the early trilogy. The songwriting is razor sharp. Take the majestically melancholic "Pa gruvstiigher vandrum", draped in conjuring female chanting that sends a cold shiver down the spine, and then the almost punkish, straight-to-the-throat attack of "Trulfylket, raþez ok os". Two tracks, two completely different worlds, and that's the whole point. Shamaatae's ancient Swedish lyrics, his unmistakable artwork and calligraphy, the sheer devotion to his own antikosmos, all of it is present here in full force.

This reissue arrives as a double LP in a gatefold sleeve with UV-varnish on the cover, complete with a hefty 20-page 12" booklet featuring an in-depth interview with Shamaatae and plenty of never-before-seen photos, plus an A2 poster. A monument of Swedish black metal, finally back where it belongs.
