Ukrainian modern metal outfit Ignea return with Monumental, their second full-length forged during wartime in their homeland. Recorded mostly in the winter of 2025/26 amidst freezing temperatures and rolling power outages in Kyiv, this record carries the weight of its creation in every riff and every breath. The band leans into nostalgia here, navigating unique facets of the past — from the grandeur and ambition of Cold War-era space dreams to the melancholy of urban decay and forgotten modernist structures, all the way to the emotional weight of personal and collective memory.
Frontwoman Helle Bohdanova penned all the lyrics, giving the album a deeply personal and reflective core. Production duties fell to the Grammy-nominated Jacob Hansen, whose resume reads like a who's who of modern heavy music — DELAIN, Amaranthe, Volbeat, Amon Amarth and Arch Enemy all bear his mark.
