Black double vinyl in gatefold sleeve with etching on D side and listening copy on CD.

Background information about 'Anno 1696'

Insomnium delivers their most ambitious and emotionally devastating work yet with "Anno 1696", a haunting concept album that transports listeners to the darkest chapter of Finnish history. This masterpiece chronicles the Great Famine that ravaged Finland, weaving together melancholic melodies with crushing heaviness in a way that only these Finnish masters can achieve. The album showcases guest appearances from Rotting Christ's Sakis Tolis on "White Christ" and renowned Finnish singer Johanna Kurkela on "Godforsaken", adding layers of depth to an already rich sonic tapestry.

The eight-track journey unfolds like a tragic novel, with each song building upon the narrative of survival, loss, and human resilience. From the opening title track's atmospheric build-up to the crushing finale of "The Rapids", Insomnium proves once again why they're considered pioneers of melodic death metal. The production is pristine yet organic, allowing every guitar harmony to breathe while maintaining the crushing weight that defines their sound.
