Background information about 'The Grand Finale'

There are albums that simply end a career, and then there are albums that slam the book shut with a fist on the table. The Grand Finale is exactly that: the very last studio record from Belgium's pioneering heavy metal institution Killer, and boy, do they go out swinging. Formed back in 1980 by guitarist and singer Paul "Shorty" Van Camp, this band helped put Belgian metal on the map alongside Acid and Crossfire, and now they return one final time with a record that sounds like a love letter to everything they ever stood for.

Shorty, bassist Ian Anthony and drummer Vanne haven't lost a single ounce of their punch. This is true old-school metal in the purest sense - catchy, honest, and packed with the kind of explosive, flashing guitar solos that have always been Shorty's calling card. He wrote every note and every lyric himself this time, and you can hear the heart and soul in every riff. The album is, in his own words, a dedication to Lemmy of Motörhead, one of their all-time heroes, and that spirit bleeds through everywhere. Tracks like the fast, Motörheadish "Roll The Dice" - where Shorty duets with Lloyd "Lemmy" of the tribute band Motorheadz - are guaranteed to get fists in the air. And on "What You See Is What You Get," the fastest cut on the record, Lloyd takes the mic entirely on his own and sounds frighteningly close to Mister Kilmister himself.

But it's not all speed and fury. "Welcome in the Real World" is a genuinely catchy, sing-along anthem that burrows into your skull after a single spin, and the title track carries that unmistakable Killer swagger. This is a band saying goodbye on their own terms: no posers, no false metallers, just honest, true heavy metal without compromise. What you see is what you get - and what you get here is a proper farewell from one of the genre's most underrated warriors.
