Background information about 'Them'
The haunting masterpiece that solidified King Diamond's position as heavy metal's most theatrical storyteller returns in all its spine-chilling glory. "Them" stands as a towering achievement in conceptual horror metal, weaving a psychological nightmare through nine tracks of pure malevolent brilliance. From the asylum-breaking opener "Out From The Asylum" to the bone-chilling "Welcome Home," this album drags listeners into a world where reality blurs with madness, and every note carries the weight of impending doom.
What makes this album absolutely essential is how King Diamond's falsetto vocals dance between beauty and terror, creating an atmosphere so thick you could cut it with a scalpel. The guitar work slices through the mix with surgical precision, while the rhythm section pounds like a heartbeat in a nightmare. Tracks like "Tea" and "The Accusation Chair" showcase the band's ability to build tension through musical storytelling, making each listen a journey deeper into psychological horror. This isn't just heavy metal – it's a complete theatrical experience that redefined what concept albums could achieve.
