Background information about 'Spiritually Uncontrolled Art'
Some records don't need a long career to leave a crater. Liers In Wait cut exactly one EP in their entire existence, and "Spiritually Uncontrolled Art" still sounds like a warning shot fired from a basement in Sweden. The band grew out of the ashes of Grotesque, which makes them close kin to At the Gates, and you can hear that bloodline in every razor-sharp turn. But where their contemporaries often settled into a groove, this thing refuses to sit still. Riffs tumble over each other, drums snap and skitter, and the whole twenty minutes feel like a séance that got out of hand.
What makes it so special is how alien it still sounds. This is early nineties extreme metal that owes as much to Atheist and Morbid Angel as it does to Possessed, wrapped in a distinctly Scandinavian chill and drenched in Lovecraftian dread. Necrolord's original artwork is back on the sleeve, and side B is etched, which suits a record this strange and ritualistic. Under twenty minutes, one shot, no reunion tours. If you care about the deep underground of death metal, this is essential.
