Produced by guitarist Gregor Mackintosh at Black Planet Studios in East Yorkshire, Ascension showcases ten tracks that traverse the band's entire sonic spectrum – from crushing heavy metal to soaring melodies – while maintaining their irresistible minor-key melancholy. From the gloriously dark opening riff of "Serpent on The Cross" that transforms into thunderous classic metal, to tracks like "Tyrant's Serenade" highlighting Gregor's characteristic haunting guitar leads, this album demonstrates PARADISE LOST'S mastery at making simplicity sound massive.
