Background information about '...Symptoms...'
Maladie's debut offering "...Symptoms..." emerges from the shadows as a haunting exploration of psychological torment and spiritual decay. This French black metal entity crafts an atmosphere that's both suffocating and mesmerizing, weaving together traditional second-wave black metal elements with a more introspective, almost meditative approach. The album's singular epic track "Divinitas - A Journey" unfolds like a fever dream, taking listeners through various stages of mental anguish and transcendence over its extended runtime.
The production maintains that raw, unpolished edge that's essential to the genre while allowing each instrument to breathe within the mix. Maladie demonstrates a mature understanding of dynamics, shifting between blast-beaten fury and more contemplative passages that showcase the project's depth beyond mere aggression. The vocals alternate between tortured shrieks and whispered incantations, creating an unsettling narrative that perfectly complements the album's thematic content about inner demons and spiritual awakening.
