Rarely has a debut album sounded this complete and sophisticated. Maunah emerge from the Danish underground like a force of nature, delivering a modern doom metal masterpiece that feels both ancient and refreshingly new. Hjarta — which translates to "heart" — is an album that beats with genuine passion and craftsmanship.
The band is no flash in the pan though. Frontman Søren Sol Koldsen-Zederkof has toured extensively with beloved Nordic folk act Krauka and released acclaimed albums under his LOS moniker. That experience shines through every second of Hjarta. While the roots dig deep into melodic Scandinavian doom tradition, there's so much more happening here. A dash of Nordic folk weaves through the heavy riffs, a pinch of modern metal adds bite, and legendary producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, MOONSPELL, HEAVEN SHALL BURN) handled the groove-heavy rhythm section recordings. The result? An album that keeps giving with every spin, layered with excellent ideas and subtle details.
