Background information about 'Amends'
The Fall of Every Season return with Amends, a record that feels less like an album and more like a slow-burning confession dragged out of the Norwegian winter. The band, led by the ever-restless Marius Strand, has always walked a fine line between doom metal's crushing weight and the kind of melancholic beauty that makes you stare out a window for far too long. Amends leans heavily into that latter territory, trading pure heaviness for atmosphere, texture, and a patience that rewards listeners who give it the time it demands.
The opening track "Sole Passenger" sets the tone immediately - eleven-plus minutes of glacial pacing, subtle piano flourishes, and vocals that hover somewhere between clean, mournful singing and desperate growls. "The Mammoth" is the closest thing to a straightforward doom stomp here, with riffs that feel like they're being dragged through mud, yet the band never lets it become predictable. "Aurelia" and "Come, Waves" close the record with an almost post-rock sensibility, letting guitars ring out into open space before pulling everything back down into the earth. This is music that breathes, that takes its time, that trusts the listener to stay present through every shift in mood and tempo.
