Background information about 'Lords of Hypocrisy'
What a triumph this is! Pagan Altar's "Lords of Hypocrisy" stands as an absolute monument to the dark arts of heavy doom metal, a record that practically drips with occult atmosphere and crushing weight. Originally conceived between 1976 and 1983 during the fertile NWOBHM era, this collection captures the band at their most sinister and compelling.
The sheer power of tracks like "The Black Mass" and "Judgement of the Dead" showcases Terry Jones' haunting vocals floating over mountainous riffs that could wake the dead. Each song feels like a ritual unto itself, with the band's masterful understanding of dynamics creating an almost hypnotic listening experience. The guitar work weaves between crushing doom passages and more traditional heavy metal moments, while the rhythm section provides an unshakeable foundation for these tales of man's inhumanity to man.
