The German power-trio, formed in the Black Forest back in 2012 before relocating to Hamburg, spent their first decade tirelessly crafting their debut "Uncertain Times" (2019) — a modern classic that blended 70s hard rock, traditional 80s metal, punk attitude, and speed metal into something effortlessly cool. Now they're back, and holy hell, they've outdone themselves.
"Jenseitsritt" isn't a reinvention — it's a refinement. The band still rides that glorious wave of gritty, no-frills rock'n'roll that sounds like it was recorded in a sweaty basement after three beers too many. But there's an urgency here that demands attention. The riffs hit harder, the melodies twist and turn in breathless fashion, and yet — paradoxically — the whole thing flows with a poetic, almost hypnotic ease. This is music you feel in your bones, a raw, electrified document of a band firing on all cylinders. Midnight Prey have returned with unrivaled splendor and unbridled fervor, and the underground is better for it.
