Background information about 'Jenseitsritt'
There are records that creep up on you, and then there are those that grab you by the collar right from the first note. Midnight Prey's second full-length, "Jenseitsritt", is one of those rare beasts that manages to do both. Hailing from Hamburg via the Black Forest, this German power-trio has been simmering since 2012, and their long-awaited follow-up to 2019's "Uncertain Times" is nothing short of a masterclass in gritty, heartfelt heavy rock.
What makes "Jenseitsritt" so utterly captivating is its effortless swagger. The band weaves together 70s hard rock swagger, traditional 80s metal muscle, and a dash of punk and speed metal urgency into something that feels timeless rather than retro. There's a raw, almost sweaty electricity running through these songs — you can practically smell the beer-soaked stage of a packed club. The melodies bend, break, and rebuild themselves in breathless fashion, yet the whole thing flows with a poetic, almost meditative quality. It's loud, it's dirty, it's cool as hell, and somehow it's also strangely relaxing. Midnight Prey have returned with unbridled fervor, and they've never sounded better.
