Background information about 'Too Fast For Love (45th Anniversary)'
There is a certain smell to a debut that was recorded on a shoestring and released on the band's own label, and Too Fast For Love reeks of it in the best possible way. Before the arenas, before the makeup budget ballooned, Mötley Crüe were just four kids from Los Angeles with borrowed amps and a singer who sounded like he had already lived three lives. The songs here are lean, hungry and gloriously unpolished — "Live Wire" kicks the door in, "Piece of Your Action" swaggers like it owns the room, and the title track rides a riff so simple and so perfect that you wonder why nobody else got there first. This is glam metal before the gloss, punk attitude bleeding through Sunset Strip sleaze.
Four and a half decades later it still sounds like a dare. What makes this anniversary collection worth the shelf space is the sense of a band caught mid-transformation, rough edges intact, the hunger audible in every take. You can hear where the legend started and, more importantly, why anyone cared in the first place. It is not the polished, stadium-sized Crüe of later years — it is the raw, scrappy, gloriously reckless version that made the whole thing possible. Play it loud, preferably on a system that rattles the windows.
