Background information about 'Far From God'
Let's be real for a second: Gothic Metal has been sleepwalking for a while. Too many bands mistaking gloom for depth, dressing up clichés as substance. Then Moonspell drop "Far From God" and remind everyone what this shit is actually about. Five years in the making, born from doubt and creative soul-searching, the Portuguese legends return not with a safe bet but with a goddamn rebirth — darker, sharper, and emotionally naked in ways that hit you right in the chest.
From the moment the title track kicks in, you know this isn't nostalgia bait. “Far From God” burns with that tragic vampiric romance the genre was built on, but there's a rawness here that refuses to be polite. Dense guitars, layered keyboards that never soften the blow, and Fernando Ribeiro's voice — moving between gravel-bottom gravitas and restrained intensity — it's all there. Then you get “The Great Wolf in the Sky” featuring Alicia Nuhro, and holy hell, that's an anthem. Expansive, melancholic, powerful — a tribute to wolves, to friends lost, to the whole damn journey. Produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Sólstafir, Ghost), this thing sounds massive, luminous yet shadowed like a black diamond. This isn't just a good Moonspell album. This is the album that saves Gothic Metal from itself.
