Background information about 'Horrible Night'
Some records don't just play — they close the curtains, kill the lights and dare you to keep sitting there. Moss made one of those. "Horrible Night" is doom metal dragged down to its slowest, heaviest crawl, and it's absolutely magnificent for it. The Southampton trio understand something that most bands in the genre forget: dread isn't loud, it's patient. Riffs hang in the air like fog over a graveyard, the low end rumbles somewhere beneath the floorboards, and the vocals sound like they're being summoned rather than sung.
What makes this album such a rewarding listen is how much space it allows itself. Nothing is rushed. Tracks like "The Bleeding Years" and "Dreams From The Depths" unfold at their own ritual pace, letting feedback, fuzz and feedback-drenched atmosphere do the storytelling. There's a real sense of old-school doom worship here — the kind of thing that would sit comfortably next to the genre's sacred texts — but Moss never feel like a tribute act. They sound like they genuinely mean it, and that sincerity is what makes the whole thing so gripping. Put it on after midnight, turn it up, and let it work on you.
