Background information about 'Peril'
Peril lands like a boot to the chest. Nervesaw deal in that gloriously ugly end of death metal where riffs are dragged through gravel and the tempo shifts come at you without warning, and this record is the sound of a band who clearly enjoy the damage they're doing. The guitars are thick and serrated, the low end rumbles like a collapsing tunnel, and the vocals sit somewhere between a bark and a landslide. It's not polished, it's not polite, and that's exactly the point. Every track feels like it was recorded in a room that smelled of sweat and old amplifiers, and honestly, that's a compliment.
What keeps Peril from being just another slab of brutality is the songwriting. Nervesaw know when to slow down and let a groove fester before ripping it apart again, and those moments of near-doom crawl give the faster sections real weight. There's a grim, almost punkish urgency running underneath everything, the kind of energy that makes you want to knock over furniture. Fans of the current European underground will find plenty to sink their teeth into here, and the vinyl pressing does the low end justice.
