Background information about 'Fire in the Brain'

When you talk about the unsung heroes of European heavy metal, Oz should be right at the top of that conversation. Formed way back in 1977 in the tiny Finnish town of Nakilla, these guys didn't just play heavy metal — they lived and breathed it. Fire in the Brain, their sophomore assault from 1983, is nothing short of a masterclass in pure, unadulterated Euro steel. And now, thanks to High Roller Records, this beast is back on wax with a second pressing that does the material absolute justice.

From the moment Search Lights kicks in with its apocalyptic, doom-laden riffing, you know you're in for something special. This isn't polite, radio-friendly rock — this is a dark, freight-train of a record that pummels you relentlessly from start to finish. Tracks like Fortune, Megalomaniac, and Gambler are high-energy anthems that showcase a band operating at the peak of their powers. The rhythm section of Jay C. Blade and Mark Ruffneck is absolutely locked in, while the twin-guitar attack of Speedy Foxx and Spooky Wolff weaves melodies that'll stick in your skull for days. Ape DeMartini's vocals? Pure, soaring heavy metal glory. Martin Popoff himself awarded this album 9 out of 10 in his Collector's Guide to Heavy Metal, calling it "a richly European work" — and the man wasn't wrong. The title track alone, with its violent, wailing conclusion, is worth the price of admission.

The audio restoration and mastering by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony breathes new life into these recordings, while the cutting by SST Germany on Neumann machines guarantees audiophile-grade playback. This is the definitive way to experience one of 1983's finest metal albums — a record that Metal Forces and Rock Hard rightly celebrated back in the day, and one that still hits like a sledgehammer over four decades later.
