Background information about 'Psalmus Mortis'
Psalmus Mortis is the debut full-length album from Retromorphosis, a band born from the remnants of Spawn Of Possession, bringing a fresh yet brutal approach to technical death metal. The album showcases a blend of frenetic riffs, relentless blast beats, and intricate rhythmic structures, combined with a cosmic and horror-themed lyrical atmosphere. The music carries the influence of Spawn Of Possession's legacy, enriched by guitarist Jonas Bryssling’s refined compositional skills and contributions from seasoned musicians such as Dennis Röndum, Erlend Caspersen, Christian Muenzner, and KC Howard. With songs like “Vanished” and “The Tree,” the album bridges old-school death metal crunch with futuristic dystopian narratives, offering both intensity and cerebral musicianship.
The album stands as a significant evolution in tech-death, filled with brain-bursting bass lines, razor-sharp solos, and synthesizers that add a unique texture to the soundscape. The closing track embodies the band’s dynamic range and unholy spirit. Artwork by Arif Sept complements the eerie and complex tone of the music. This release is an essential listen for followers of technical death metal seeking innovation and mastery.
