Background information about 'The Hidden Hand'
There are albums that you listen to, and then there are albums that surround you. If These Trees Could Talk's "The Hidden Hand" is firmly in the latter camp — a breathtaking instrumental journey that grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go until the final note decays into silence. The Ohio quartet has been perfecting their brand of atmospheric post-rock for well over a decade, and this record stands as their most focused, powerful statement yet.
From the opening riff of "The Hidden Hand", the band weaves a tapestry of crushing heaviness and delicate beauty that feels both cinematic and deeply personal. The guitars don't just play — they converse, they argue, they embrace. Tracks like "Above the Earth" and "The Great Attractor" build from hushed, shimmering arpeggios into walls of distortion that hit you right in the chest, while the rhythm section (oh, that rhythm section!) locks into grooves that are as hypnotic as they are punishing. There's no need for vocals here — every string bend, every cymbal crash, every moment of silence speaks volumes. This is music that demands your full attention, rewarding repeated listens with new details hidden in the mix. It's the kind of record that makes you want to drive through a desert at dusk or stare at the stars until sunrise.
