Background information about 'Hum Of Hurt'
Converge are back, and they haven't come to make friends. "Hum Of Hurt" is the sound of a band that has spent decades refining chaos into something almost transcendent — and still finds new ways to make your speakers bleed. From the first jagged riff, there's that unmistakable Converge electricity: Jacob Bannon's voice tearing through the mix like a man exorcising demons in real time, Kurt Ballou's guitar work veering between surgical precision and absolute wreckage, and the rhythm section of Nate Newton and Ben Koller locking into grooves that feel like the floor dropping out beneath you.
This isn't just another Converge record — it's a statement. The songwriting here feels leaner, meaner, somehow even more urgent than before. Tracks twist and convulse with that signature blend of hardcore fury and metallic heft, but there are moments of strange, almost beautiful decay creeping in at the edges. Ballou's production — as always — is immaculate, giving every snare hit the weight of a sledgehammer and letting the low end rumble through your chest. "Hum Of Hurt" doesn't just demand your attention; it grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until the final note rings out into feedback-drenched silence. This is Converge doing what they do best: making music that hurts in all the right ways.
