Background information about 'River Black'
What happens when members of two of modern metal's most ferocious bands lock themselves in a room? You get River Black — a self-titled debut that hits like a freight train derailing at full speed. With Municipal Waste shredder Dave Witte behind the kit and Revocation guitarist Dan Gargiulo laying down riffs, this is a supergroup that actually delivers on its promise.
The album tears through twelve tracks in just over 32 minutes, wasting zero seconds on filler. From the moment "Jaws" kicks in with its pummeling groove, you know you're in for a ride. The production is raw but punchy — think early Every Time I Die meeting the precision of Converge with a healthy dose of Southern sludge swagger. "Low" and "Shipwreck" showcase the band's ability to switch from crushing breakdowns to almost hypnotic, swinging rhythms on a dime. "South X South" is a standout, with a chorus that burrows into your skull and refuses to leave. This isn't technical wankery for its own sake — every riff serves the song, every blast beat hits with purpose.
