Background information about 'The Ones I Condemn'

If there's one thing the Canadian thrash metal scene has given us that deserves eternal reverence, it's Sacrifice. And The Ones I Condemn — their fifth studio album from 2009 — is the kind of comeback record that doesn't just knock on the door, it kicks the damn thing off its hinges. After sixteen years of silence following 1993's Apocalypse Inside, the Toronto quartet returned with an album so vicious, so relentlessly sharp, that it felt like they'd never left the rehearsal room — let alone the scene.

Rob Urbinati and Joe Rico's dual guitar attack on this record is nothing short of electrifying. From the opening salvo of "We Will Prevail" to the closing devastation of "Desolation Alive", there's a ferocious precision at work here that puts most younger thrash revival bands to absolute shame. The rhythm section — Scott Watts on bass and Gus Pynn behind the kit — operates like a well-oiled war machine, locking into grooves that are as punishing as they are technically impressive. Tracks like "Give Me Justice" and "The Great Wall" showcase a band that lost precisely zero aggression during their hiatus. If anything, the hunger had only intensified.

What makes this High Roller Records reissue so essential is the full dynamic remaster by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, cut in January 2026 from the original mixdown. This isn't some brickwalled, ear-fatiguing mess — this is how thrash metal should sound: raw, breathing, and devastatingly powerful. The 180g black vinyl pressing, housed in a sturdy 425gsm heavy cardboard cover with a 4-page insert and poster, is the definitive way to experience what Urbinati himself calls an album that "still holds up" over fifteen years later. He's not wrong. The Ones I Condemn stands shoulder to shoulder with Sacrifice's classic output — and in some moments, towers above it.
