Background information about 'Devouring Mortality'
There is a moment about forty seconds into the opener of "Devouring Mortality" where Skeletal Remains stop being polite about their influences and simply become a bulldozer. This is death metal the way it was meant to be played: filthy, fast, and absolutely unashamed of its old school DNA. The Californians wear their Morbid Angel and Death records on their sleeves, but they never sound like a tribute act. Instead they take those bones and build something meaner, tighter, and genuinely thrilling out of them.
What makes this record such a joy is the sheer craft underneath all that violence. The riffs are actual riffs, not just tremolo blur, and the rhythm section locks in with a precision that makes the blast beats hit like a punch to the chest. Chris Monroy's growl sits perfectly in the mix, and the lead work is full of wild, screaming solos that feel like they might derail at any second but never do. Every track earns its place, and the whole thing runs on a momentum that makes forty minutes disappear in a heartbeat. It is a record that respects the past without ever being trapped by it.
