Background information about 'Songs To Moon'

No height is too steep for Stoned Jesus to climb. After fifteen years spent spelunking through doom, psych, grunge and art rock, the Ukrainian heavy-prog trailblazers have returned with the second chapter of their ambitious "Songs to..." trilogy, and it is the darkest thing they have ever committed to wax.

Songs to Moon opens in the long shadow of its predecessor with "Under the Skin", a massive, churning slab of post-metal that drops you into the record like the sun sinking below the horizon. The existential weight that hung over Songs to Sun hasn't lifted, and frontman Igor Sydorenko sounds coolly detached as he sings "Still I'm falling down / From high above" over the catchy doomgaze of lead single "Velvet". Then comes "Jackal", a miniature prog-opera that finds the band at their most theatrical, and dead centre sits "Syzygy" — their first-ever instrumental, weaving one melody from each album in the trilogy into a single, melancholic whole.

But even on their moodiest record, Stoned Jesus refuse to be pinned to one shade of blue. Following in the footsteps of Led Zeppelin III, Opeth's Damnation and Alice In Chains' Jar of Flies, the album's final lap strips everything back to acoustic guitar and Sydorenko's hushed vocals. As the dreamy desperation of "Window in My Room" fades into the stark closer "One More Empty Day", Stoned Jesus touch down weary but wise beyond their years. A giant leap into the most daring, deeply moving territory of their career.
