There is a moment, somewhere deep inside "Tempelschlaf", when the air simply stops moving. The Ruins Of Beverast have never been a band in a hurry, and their latest full-length is a monument built slowly, stone by stone, out of black metal's coldest granite and doom metal's heaviest lead. Seven tracks, no filler, no mercy. Alexander von Meilenwald has spent two decades refining a very particular kind of dread, and here it feels almost ceremonial — funereal riffs dragged forward by ritualistic drumming, cavernous clean passages that open up like crypts, and that unmistakable rasp cutting through the murk like a blade through fog.

What makes this record so gripping is its patience. "Day Of The Poacher" and "Cathedral Of Bleeding Statues" don't pummel you into submission; they stalk you, layer by layer, until the atmosphere is so thick you can practically taste the incense. Then comes "Babel, You Scarlet Queen!", a title that sounds like a warning carved into a church wall, and it lands with the weight of a collapsing nave. "Last Theatre Of The Sea" and the closing "The Carrion Cocoon" stretch out into vast, meditative territory, the kind of songwriting that rewards headphones and darkness in equal measure. This is blackened doom of the highest order — oppressive, majestic, and utterly hypnotic.
