Background information about 'Ascension Lost'

There are bands that merely play death metal, and then there are bands that live it, breathe it, bleed it. Thulcandra belong firmly in the second camp, and Ascension Lost is the sound of a band completely in their element. This is the kind of record that grabs you by the collar from the very first riff and refuses to let go until the final note has faded into silence.

From the storming opener "The First Rebellion" through to the crushing weight of "Demigod Imprisoned" and the title track itself, Ascension Lost never lets the intensity dip. The guitar work is razor-sharp, weaving melodic passages that soar above a relentless rhythmic foundation, while the vocals cut through the mix with genuine menace. There is a real sense of craft here, a band that understands dynamics and knows exactly when to pull back before delivering the next knockout blow. The brief "Interlude" offers a moment of eerie calm, but make no mistake, this is an album built for headbanging.

What sets Thulcandra apart is their unapologetic devotion to the old-school spirit of the genre. This is not a nostalgia act, though. The production is modern and punchy, giving every blastbeat and tremolo-picked lead the space it needs to hit hard. Tracks like "Sorrow of the One" and "The Second Fall" show a band writing with conviction and purpose, channeling the dark, melodic traditions of the style into something that feels vital and alive. If you have any love for the darker side of extreme metal, Ascension Lost is essential listening.
