Background information about 'Run To The Light'

There are albums that simply hit different. Trouble's "Run To The Light" is one of those rare beasts that defies easy categorization even within the band's own legendary discography. Released in 1987, this record saw the Chicago doom pioneers stretching their wings, moving beyond the raw, Sabbath-worshipping heaviness of their early work into something more expansive, more atmospheric, and arguably more ambitious. It's Trouble at their most psychedelic, weaving layers of reverb-drenched guitar and ethereal vocals into a sound that feels both massive and hauntingly fragile.

The opening salvo of "The Misery Shows" sets the tone immediately — a crushing yet strangely melodic riff that locks into a hypnotic groove. Vocalist Eric Wagner delivers one of his most emotionally charged performances here, his voice soaring over the murky production like a ghost in the machine. Tracks like "Thinking of the Past" and the title track "Run to the Light" showcase the band's uncanny ability to balance sheer heaviness with moments of delicate beauty. The rhythm section of Ian Brown (drums) and Ron Holzner (bass) provides a thunderous foundation, while guitarists Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell weave tapestries of dark, shimmering riffs. This is doom metal that dares to dream, a record that rewards repeated listens with new discoveries each time.
