Background information about 'As Yggdrasil Trembles'

Swedish death metal veterans Unleashed are back with a vengeance on "As Yggdrasil Trembles", and let me tell you – this thing absolutely rips. Since their early days in the late '80s, these guys have been carving their own path through the Norse-themed death metal landscape, and this new offering feels like a natural, ferocious evolution of their signature sound. The riffs are thick as a Viking's axe, the drums thunder like the hooves of Sleipnir, and frontman Johnny Hedlund's guttural roar has never sounded more commanding. From the first crushing chord to the final decaying note, this album grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. The production is raw enough to keep that old-school charm but polished just enough to let every detail shine through the frostbitten air.

What makes "As Yggdrasil Trembles" truly special is how it balances brutality with melody. Tracks like the title cut and "Shields Up" weave together blasting aggression with these surprisingly epic, almost anthem-like choruses that'll have you raising a horn in the air. There's a certain timelessness to the way Unleashed approach songwriting – it's not about reinventing the wheel, it's about making the wheel heavier, sharper, and more dangerous. The guitar work is stellar throughout, with dual harmonies that cut through the mix like a battle-axe through chainmail. Lyrically, the band dives deep into Norse mythology and existential themes, giving the whole record a weight that goes beyond just headbanging. This is death metal with purpose, with history, with soul.
