More about 'Aqualung (Redux)'
Jethro Tull are musical giants with a unique sound— or rather sounds—that have remained unparalleled in the canon of rock music. Founded in 1967 in Blackpool, Lancashire, by Scottish Ian Anderson, the band has undergone numerous stylistic changes and image shifts over their decades-long career. Yet, the distinctive voice of their frontman and the inclusion of the flute as a key instrument have left Jethro Tull with an unmistakable sonic fingerprint. "Aqualung Redux" presents new versions of all eleven tracks from the 1971 best-selling album, which has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.
With "Aqualung," the Brits celebrated their breakthrough as a rock band in radio and TV, as well as on worldwide tours. The album primarily deals with faith and religion but also touches on other themes like homelessness. According to Ian Anderson, "Aqualung" is not a concept album, although it is often perceived as such. While the band continued to draw on blues, hard rock, and psychedelia as they had on earlier works, they added more acoustic folk elements to "Aqualung." The single release 'Locomotive Breath' is arguably Jethro Tull's best-known and most covered song.
