Background information about 'Aqualung (Redux)'
Jethro Tull are musical giants with a unique sound—or better yet, sounds—that remain unparalleled within the canon of rock music. Founded by Scotsman Ian Anderson in 1967 in Blackpool, Lancashire, the band has survived numerous stylistic changes and image shifts throughout its decades-long career. Despite this evolution, the distinctive voice of its frontman and the integration of the flute as a central instrument have endowed Jethro Tull with an unmistakable sonic fingerprint. "Aqualung Redux" presents new versions of all eleven tracks from the 1971 bestselling album, which has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. With "Aqualung," the British band achieved their breakthrough as a rock band on both radio and television and on global tours. The album primarily deals with themes of faith and religion but also touches on issues like homelessness. According to Ian Anderson, "Aqualung" is not a concept album, despite often being considered as such. While it continues to draw on blues, hard rock, and psychedelia, "Aqualung" introduces more acoustic folk elements. The single "Locomotive Breath" is arguably Jethro Tull's most famous and frequently covered song.
