Background information about 'Aqualung (Redux)'
Jethro Tull stands as musical giants with a unique sound—a soundscape that remains unparalleled in the annals of rock music. Founded in 1967 by Scotsman Ian Anderson in Blackpool, Lancashire, the band has continually evolved both stylistically and in image throughout its extensive career. The distinctive voice of their frontman and the inclusion of the flute as a key instrument have endowed Jethro Tull with an unmistakable sonic fingerprint. "Aqualung Redux" presents new renditions of all eleven tracks from the 1971 bestseller album, which has sold over seven million copies worldwide, marking Jethro Tull's breakthrough as a rock band on radio, TV, and global tours. The album primarily explores themes of faith and religion but also delves into topics such as homelessness. Despite often being considered a concept album, Ian Anderson asserts that "Aqualung" is not one. While maintaining elements of blues, hard rock, and psychedelia from their earlier works, the band incorporated more acoustic folk moments into "Aqualung." The single 'Locomotive Breath' is arguably Jethro Tull's most famous and frequently covered song.
Alongside "Aqualung Redux," we present the companion album "Best of Jethro Tull Redux," featuring further classics and rarities from the British rock legend's extensive catalog. The Magnetic Eye Redux series allows selected artists to reinterpret classic albums from rock and metal history with respect and bring them into the new millennium. The label has released Redux versions of milestones like Pink Floyd's "The Wall," Helmet's "Meantime," Black Sabbath's "Vol. 4," Jimmy Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland," Alice In Chains' "Dirt," AC/DC's "Back in Black," and Soundgarden's "Superunknown." Notable artists such as Matt Pike, Pallbearer, The Melvins, All Them Witches, Khemmis, ASG, Zakk Wylde, Mark Lanegan, Scott Reeder have participated in various Redux projects. Join Magnetic Eye’s eighth expedition into the Redux adventure that pays due homage to the remarkable British rock innovators Jethro Tull!
