Background information about 'Shanderilan'

"Shanderilan" arrives like a slow-burning candle in a dark room — and Veljanov knows exactly how long to let it flicker before the flame catches. Alexander Veljanov, the unmistakable baritone behind Deine Lakaien, steps back into the solo spotlight after a long silence, and the wait has clearly sharpened him rather than softened him. What hits first is the voice: that deep, velvety, almost impossibly warm instrument, gliding upward into higher registers without ever losing its grain. It is a voice that has aged like good wood, and here it is framed by arrangements that feel genuinely multi-layered — strings, electronics, and guitar lines woven into something that breathes.

The songwriting is the real story. "Take a Knee" and "Perfect World" carry a quiet, coiled anger beneath their polish, while "Nightbird" and "Our Mother the Mountain" drift into that mesmerising darkness Veljanov does better than almost anyone. Then there are the two "Alphabet" pieces, split across the record like bookends, and the gorgeous "Juno & Adora" — moments where refined beauty suddenly turns into an epic hymn without warning. The collaboration with Macedonian composer and guitarist Goran Trajkoski pays off in a production that is lush but never bloated, every layer earning its place.

This is a mature record in the best sense: an artist who no longer needs to prove anything, just to sing. Welcome back, indeed.
